A few answers to some of our most common questions
How does Weaverbirds protect respondent data?
Weaverbirds adheres to strict data management and security protocols, ensuring informed consent from all participants via WhatsApp before any data collection. Participant data is anonymised and securely stored, with identifiable information separated and access restricted. Once the project concludes, any identifiable information is retained for one year before being destroyed, and we are responsive to any data modification or deletion requests through our customer service WhatsApp chat (+1 585 565 555). Please see our privacy policy for further information.
What is Weaverbirds’ approach to sampling?
Weaverbirds uses both targeted and random sampling approaches based on project needs. When clients provide a large enough contact list, we apply random sampling techniques to ensure unbiased representation. (For reference, we typically contact 250 respondents per survey.) For projects where we source respondents, we engage with proprietary networks of connected individuals in urban and peri-urban areas across Africa, Asia, and LATAM, enabling us to target specific demographic and geographic segments to deliver relevant, actionable insights.
Does Weaverbirds compensate respondents for their time?
Yes, we believe that sharing information should benefit both the sharer and the recipient. (Data collection should not be an extractive process, though it often is.) Weaverbirds compensates respondents for their participation with meaningful, localised incentives, typically provided via mobile money or airtime. Compensation generally ranges from $1 to $7, depending on the market and the effort required for the engagement. This ensures respondents are fairly rewarded for their time and contributions.
How does AI-powered analysis work? How accurate is it compared to manual analysis?
Weaverbirds’ AI-powered system replicates the process a qualitative researcher would use to code and extract themes from unstructured voice and text data. Our AI identifies key themes, their prevalence, and the sentiment around those themes by analysing conversations in real time. While our AI delivers fast, scalable results, we combine it with human review for quality assurance, ensuring accuracy and rigour comparable to manual analysis.
How does Weaverbirds compare to more expensive offerings in the market?
Weaverbirds provides a cost-effective alternative to traditional market research by leveraging automation and real-time engagement. While more expensive offerings may include in-depth consulting, broader services, or lengthy slide decks, we focus on delivering timely, actionable intelligence with lower overhead. This allows clients to adapt quickly without compromising on quality or incurring excessive costs.
What quality control measures does Weaverbirds take?
Weaverbirds employs a combination of automated checks and human oversight to maintain data quality. We monitor respondent engagement, filter for inconsistent responses, and regularly audit our AI-powered analysis. Additionally, we use cross-validation with human analysts to ensure the accuracy and reliability of insights.
What response rates can we expect?
Response rates vary depending on the target demographic, region, and survey complexity. However, by combining fiscal incentives and highly engaged, local respondent networks, typically response rates are 40-70%.
How much do projects cost?
Projects start from $3,000, with modules that can be added depending on project complexity.
How long do projects take?
Project timelines depend on the complexity of the engagement, but thanks to our automation and real-time analytics, most are completed much faster than traditional methods. Typically, projects take 2-4 weeks, though some can be turned around in as little as a week.
What other services does Weaverbirds offer?
Weaverbirds focuses on collecting community insights, allowing us to remain a lean team; by concentrating on this core capability, we maximise efficiency and deliver quick, affordable, and actionable insights to our partners without the added complexity or cost of broader service offerings.
If we don’t have our own respondents but want to reach a specific community, is Weaverbirds still relevant to us?
Absolutely. For projects where we source respondents, Weaverbirds engages with proprietary networks of connected individuals across urban and peri-urban populations in Africa, Asia, and LATAM. This allows us to precisely target specific demographic and geographic segments, ensuring you receive actionable insights from the right audience, even without your own respondent pool.
Can Weaverbirds work with non-digitally connected communities?
While our primary focus is on digitally connected respondents, we have the capability to reach non-digitally connected communities through on-the-ground networks of enumerators, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of these ‘hardest-to-reach’ groups. Please note that there is an additional cost associated with this.
What geographies does Weaverbirds work in?
Weaverbirds operates across Africa, Asia, and Latin America (LATAM), focusing on emerging markets. While we primarily engage urban communities with high WhatsApp penetration, we can also reach rural or remote areas within these regions when needed. For locations where languages not supported by our technology are spoken, there will be an additional cost for manual translation. Please contact us with any geography-specific questions.
